Child's Play Opening Analysis

Child's Play (1988) Director: Tom Holland

After the idents the film starts by a fade in from a black screen, you hear a man breathing heavily and you then see him being chased, you see they both have guns in their hands but neither have shot yet. You then see a police car who turns his sirens on and starts driving. Both men fire gun shots repeatedly and miss, as the man being chased attempts to get into a van he is shot, the driver in the van say's "Aww shit", then the police car comes around the corner and he drives off, forcing the other man to hide behind a pole.

He then enters a toyshop, and is named as being Ray. The title "Child's Play" appears when Ray is hiding in the toy shop being doll's, these are called Good Guy's this denotes that the man being chased is the good guy. They exchange gun shots while Ray is shot he is chased around the shop due to his blood on the floor. He then admits that he is dieing and shouts that he will get payback for his friend, Eddy leaving him and also for his killing.

He repeatedly say's he needs to find somebody, while the shot is a medium close up of his body, he falls into a large amount of Good Guy doll boxes, which he then takes one out and starts chanting. You then see an extreme longshot outside the shop of the sky getting stormy and lightening. During this period there are a lot of shots cutting between Ray, the doll and the apparent villain, most of these are extreme close ups. A low angled shot shows lightening shooting through the roof and causing an explosion, destroying the shop. The villain then goes up the stairs to see the body of Ray lying on the floor, with the doll smiling, it then fades out.
